The CipherWalk quests are designed with collaboration at the core. The walk can be done by everyone who is comfortable walking a few kilometers.
What it's like
An outdoor activity
Your team walks from place to place in the city, while solving puzzles and discovering new places.
Made for collaboration
For every puzzle, everyone gets a unique clue, meaning everyone is required to solve each puzzle.
Staggered starts
The trail is sequential, so teams should start in intervals. We recommend 15 minutes between each team.
How it works
Before the start, at the office

Select a quest and purchase that quest for your work team. We suggest being 3 or 4 people per CipherWalk team.

You will get an email with one unlock code per team you purchased.

Forward one code to each team host. You may redeem one yourself.

Each host downloads the CipherWalk app and creates an account.

They open the link, or go to cipherwalk.com/unlock and enter the code. They sign in the same way as in the app.

We recommend teams start in intervals of 15 minutes so they do not overlap.
Before start, at the start location

Each host meets their team at the starting point when it's time to start.

Everyone makes sure to have a charged phone and enough data.

The host taps Create Team and shares the 6-digit code with their team.

When everyone has joined, the host starts the quest.
During play
1
The team will walk from location to location and solve puzzles at each.

During each puzzle, every team member will be assigned a role such that they are needed to solve the puzzle.

Solve all the puzzles, and make your way to the end. If some puzzles are too challenging, a hint can help guide you in the right direction.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many people per team?+
A team is 2 to 4 people. We recommend splitting into 3- or 4-person teams.
What is the recommended group size for a team event?+
3 - 12 people.
How do larger groups play?+
Keep teams at 2 to 4. When you do not want every team on one trail, send some to the other live one: Zurich Wiedikon or The Locksmith's Vault.
When can we start?+
Whenever you want.
What if it rains?+
This is the street, not a room. Light rain: coats on, walk. Heavy rain: do not start. Email the teams, use the same codes on a clearer day.
What language is the game in?+
The app and the puzzles are in English only.
What phones do we need?+
One charged smartphone per player, iPhone or Android, with data. Clues are split, so a shared phone cannot finish the trail. Install CipherWalk before you start walking.
How long does it take?+
Each trail shows time and distance on the cards below, when we have a real estimate. Three teams staggered by 15 minutes means the last team finishes about 30 minutes after the first. Plan a drink at the finish.
How much does it cost?+
CHF 29 per team of 2 to 4.
What happens after we pay?+
We email one code per team to the address you type. Forward each code to one host. They redeem it at cipherwalk.com/unlock, signed in the same way as in the app. Paying here does not put the trail on your account unless you redeem one of those codes yourself.
