Terms of Service

Last updated: 26 May 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the CipherWalk mobile app and cipherwalk.com (the “Service”), provided by Eskil Jarlskog (“we”, “us”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using the Service you confirm that you meet this requirement.

2. Your account

The app creates an anonymous account for you automatically. You are responsible for activity that takes place from your device. If you delete your account, your data is permanently removed and cannot be restored.

3. Real-world safety

CipherWalk is a location-based game that asks you to walk to real-world places. You are responsible for your own safety. Be aware of your surroundings, follow traffic laws, do not trespass on private property, and use common sense. Do not play while driving, cycling, or in any situation where distraction could put you or others at risk. We are not liable for any injury, loss, or damage that results from playing the game in the real world.

4. Acceptable use

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. The following are prohibited anywhere in the Service, including in display names and any user-submitted text:

  • Harassment, bullying, or threats against any person.
  • Hate speech or content that attacks people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any protected characteristic.
  • Sexual content, sexually suggestive content, or content sexualizing minors.
  • Doxxing or sharing anyone's private information without consent.
  • Illegal activity or content that promotes it.
  • Cheating, exploiting bugs, using unofficial clients or scripts, or sharing puzzle solutions in ways that interfere with other players' experience.
  • Reverse engineering, scraping, or otherwise misusing the Service or our content.

You can report objectionable content or abusive users by emailing support@cipherwalk.com. We commit to investigating reports within 24 hours.

We reserve the right to remove content and to suspend or terminate user accounts without prior notice for any violation of these rules.

5. Quests, content, and intellectual property

All quests, puzzles, text, art, and other content in the Service are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright. You may play through quests for personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, redistribute, or publish quest content (including walkthroughs that significantly spoil puzzles) without our permission.

6. Purchases

You can purchase a quest in the CipherWalk app (via Apple App Store or Google Play) or on cipherwalk.com (via Stripe). One purchase unlocks the quest for your whole team. Purchases do not expire.

  • Website purchases (Stripe): if you haven't played the quest yet, you can request a refund within 14 days by emailing support@cipherwalk.com with your purchase details. Once a quest has been played, it is non-refundable.
  • In-app purchases (Apple / Google): refunds are handled by Apple or Google through their standard refund process (Apple: Report a Problem in your purchase history; Google Play: Order History). Apple and Google make the final decision on refund eligibility.

7. Service availability

We aim to keep the Service running smoothly but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may modify or discontinue features at any time.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Swiss law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or CHF 50 if you have not paid us anything. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated through the app or the website. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by Swiss law. Any disputes will be resolved by the competent courts of Switzerland, subject to mandatory consumer protection laws that may apply to you.
